At the beginning of June 2011 we visited the island of Rhodes in Greece. 38 years ago I was the first time on this island. The hotel buildings have since become much more, according to the flow of tourists sometimes immense, particularly in the north or in Lindos. By contrast there are in the southern half of the island still some quiet spots, some quiet places, reminding a bit of Greece.
On the island are beaches all around, even quieter, if you look a little off the moving bus routes. Renting a car is always very beneficial. About 900 km we drove back and forth across the island and have seen almost every village, except in the very north of the island.
About the real Greece, you can find it not anymore. Everything is marketed to 100%. Especially you can feel in the town of Rhodes and Lindos in the worst. The evenings are quiet and you'll find some nice places in Lindos where you can comfortably sit on the roof terraces.
Our hotel was situated in Kalathos, only a few kilometers from Lindos on a quiet long, wide beach with very clear water. The location was ideal for our trips with the car.

Rhodes
Charaki
The first tour took us up to Lardos and Laerma, partly through the fire of 2008 destroyed forests. But now it was already green. We drove on a good road to the monastery Moni Thari. Further south, the road was still unpaved, but without significant potholes. Down to about Vai and Grenadines and the road north to Kiotari.

Now we went far to the south. Quite fast to get there ahead on the coastal road to the sandy beach and the surfers in Prasonissi. There are two major restaurants. Corresponding to the needs of today there are Russian-speaking surf-instructers.
The surf beach in Parasonisi
Behind Kattavia it is quiet. A new, very good road runs along the coast to Apolakkia. We drive to the castle and walk the short way to Monolithos ruin. In the parking lot are a few buses. Fournoi down to the beach can only drive cars. The small beach is very nice with a little cantina.

Now we drove into the middle of the island. About Arhangelis after Elousa and over to the charming little church in Fountoukli.

Not far away we went to the peak of Prof. Ilias. We parked at the hotel Elafos. From there the path that leads back up to two vantage points and on the trail further on back to the hotel..
Before you you drive straight into the city of Rhodes, we have turned to Kalithea and down the coast to the harbor in front of the old town. Since there is good parking at no cost. In the Old Town romp rather than fewer tourists. There are hundreds of stores. But nevertheless, Rhodes Town is worth a visit.
It is indeed only shortly after 9 clock in the morning as we reach Lindos, but there are already over 10 buses in the parking lot. And all people went the Acropolis, are already up or even still in the village. That is very tight, especially the last part up to the gate. The return, we take along the donkey path. It's funny, because a colorful little people, not only children, are carried up on the donkey's back.
We went to the past seven sources and further on to the church of Agios Nektarios. 5 meters above the road turns right up a narrow path to two vantage points. Approximately nearly one hour comfortable.
In Asklipio we still find a beautiful church with beautiful frescoes.
